A Simple Pretty Flower for a Sunday – 2

Last Sunday, I posted a simple flower for a Sunday post, and I thought I’d do that again.

I took this flower about two weeks ago. I was on my photo walk, and I saw some flowers in front of a house, so I started shooting. The woman who owned the house came out and offered for me to come into her yard to shoot some photos, so I did.

I showed this flower to a friend and she loved it. She said it had a spiritual feel to it, with the light in the center. She wondered if I had Photoshopped that, which I hadn’t. This is a natural shot from the camera.

This Morning Glory was shot with my Nikon 105mm f/2.8 macro lens at f/11. Macro lenses require a different thinking about apertures (f stop). An f/11 on a normal lens, say a 35 mm lens, would be pretty sharp , but as you can see, in this photo, f/11 on a macro lens still gives you a pretty narrow DOF (focus). I did a shot at f/22, but the background was more in focus (but still out of focus), and I just thought it took away from the soft feeling of the photo, which I like.

So for a Sunday, todays flower. Have a great day, everyone!

  10. I love that lens. Great capture!

  11. I love the dew on the flower, so pretty! You do good work. Why does it seem like light is coming out of it? Is that the sunlight reflecting off the lighter inside colors?

  12. Wow – amazing lighting – looks electric!! Great image!

  13. I have this exact morning glory growing wild near my side door! I do love them BUT know they are invasive. As a matter of fact, the one that is now growing wildly is a leftover from some I had in a planter at the side entrace LAST year. I guess it enjoyed itself so much it decided to come back!

    Lovely lighting!

    • I’d love to have morning glories in my yard! I don’t get morning sun though,so not possible. Sorry they’re invasive, but that morning glory must love you. 🙂 You can send it my way! 🙂 Glad you like the photo. 🙂

  14. Love the beautiful, deep color of the flower… feels as if I could reach out and touch it. 🙂

  15. This is lovely Katie. The light seems to glow from within the bloom. If I remember correctly (I haven’t done any flower macros for a few years) morning glories seem to have this quality if you get the light right — and you did.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my River reflections the other day.
