About

Welcome to my photography blog! I’m Katie Johnson, and I’m a professional photographer based in beautiful Santa Fe, New Mexico. I specialize in architecture, real estate, and vacation homes (if you’d like to see some of this type of photography, please see this gallery).

This blog, however, isn’t for my professional work. This blog is to showcase the photos I take for myself; photos that explore my artistic and creative side. I like to discover what my eye sees; particularly, photographing normal objects in a different way.

The photos on this blog will be done with very little more than just a camera and the lens I happen to put on it. At this point I’m not using anything more than natural light, and I’m trying to do very little in the way of post-processing in Photoshop. I love, love, love photos that come out of a camera perfect.

Nothing makes me happier than just taking my camera and walking around and taking photos of what I find interesting. Β I feel like I’m that ten-year old girl again, just snapping photos of things I like.

So look around, and I hope you enjoy what you find. Please leave a comment if a photo touches you in some way, as I’d love to hear from you.

If you’d like to visit my website, you can visit it at KatiesCamera.net.

If you’re interested in contacting me about the purchase of a photo or for any reason, my email address is katie@katiescamera.net.

  1. You seem to share my enjoyment of just snapping what pleases you. That’s good – it makes me feel like a proper photographer. Like you I’m none too keen on post-production either. For me the camera must simply record what my eyes see. You’re bookmarked by the way.

    • Thanks so much for your words, Tooty. We do share the same love of photography and taking what our eyes see, and that has me seeing things in different ways, which leads to better photography also. Thanks for visiting my blog and bookmarking it. I hope you find other photos you enjoy!

  2. couldn’t have said it better myself on my own about me page (if I had one on photography)! thanks for the encouragement. the world looks different through the lens of a camera. you see things you never would have taken a second look at before… i LOVE it.

    • Ah, thank you! I loved your post and you most definitely are a photographer! πŸ™‚ Yes! πŸ™‚ Seeing through a lens changes the way things look! I’m so glad you see it that way. The way the world changes, depending on which lens I use on a particular day. It makes life so much fun. Thanks so much for your comment. And best of luck with your photography!

  3. Hi Katie,
What shines through every photo is your spirit, bright and lovely…thank you for sharing, I am a fan! And thank you for your lovely, supportive and kind words.
    Alissa

  4. It’s such a gift to capture the beauty we see with our own eyes in a photo. I think you’ve inspired me to get a better camera! πŸ˜‰

  5. Ahhh! Lovely stuff and will return to comment on your photos here and on your featherandfurpetcare site. Thanks for checking in on my blog. Soon to post an update.

  6. There’s something for you here:

  7. I too love whipping out my “point and shoot” camera. Anything that catches my aesthetic eye is a target. But I defer to the professionals whose expertise goes far beyond what my little, red Canon and I create. No matter…

    i’m having a blast… πŸ™‚

    • Ah, yes, having a camera all the time is perfect! So glad you’re having a great time with your camera. You are a photographer and so glad you’re sharing your wonderful photos! πŸ™‚

  8. Hello Katie! Thank you very much for your kind words, coming from an artist like you make me fell very proud of my simple blog. =)
Very nice to meet you and I love your work, especially your ideas…. using your telescope to take pictures from the moon created amazing pics.
I think that the same passion that I feel for cinema you have for photos… I just started my Film Production degree in UK and I am thrilled!! lol
I will be around! Take care! Andrea

    • Ah, you’re so sweet! And you’re so welcome. I adore your blog–it is so much fun! And thanks for your comment on my telescope photos. They amazed me coming out, but of course, it’s the wonderful telescope! And good luck with your Film Production Degree! You will do so well, and I’m so happy for you! Truly! Thanks again! Oh, and I fixed the work/word issue in your comment. πŸ™‚ Hope you don’t mind. Take care and so nice to meet you!

  16. I have been enjoying your blog since I found it. I have nominated you for the versatile blogger award http://traveldestinationbucketlist.com/2011/10/26/versatile-blogger-thanks-for-readiing/
    Thanks for sharing your photography.

  17. I like the simplicity of your images, Katie. You have a real eye for image choice and composition and you do prove the point that all an artist needs is a good eye and method to render what they see in their eyes.

  18. Really glad you took the time to check out my blog because I was able to check out yours as well. You have amazing photos! Keep up the great work!

  19. Hi, thanks for stopping at my blog: http://previkingtravels.wordpress.com! I feel that it’s a real honor that a professional photographer like you likes one of my pictures! So, I decided to have a look here and I like your work very much. So much that I subscribed to your blog πŸ™‚ You really are very creative!

  20. Katie, I love your “view” on life…

    Jess

  21. Your photos are rich & intriguing & your blog is unique. Thanks for visiting my new fledgling blog…..will follow….always need inspiration for my photography……

    • Ah, thank you so much! I really appreciate it. I enjoyed my visit to your blog. My blog is not yet two months old, so I know how it is to be starting out. πŸ™‚ Thanks again for the wonderful comment. πŸ™‚

  22. Hi Katie, found your blog through ‘downhomesouthjersey’. I can see why she picked your blog as a winner! LOVE your photos. They are an inspiration to me. I love taking pictures of the natural world and you’re giving me some ideas for my next photo excursion!

    • Thank you so much, Melanie! i’m so happy to hear that my photos are an inspiration to you. It’s such wonderful thing to hear. Thank so much for your nice comment and for visiting my blog!

  23. Very nice photos here. I love Santa Fe, what a great place to photograph, I took a photo workshop there 10 years ago. I echo your photo philosophy of shooting straight from the camera. I also do little work on the computer. I looked through your photos and took a double take at the dandelion seed, I took one just like it. I will be back to see more. Awesome work.

  24. Hi! I have recently discovered your blog and really enjoyed your posts, so I’ve nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award!

I’ve added a link to your blog from my post: https://lilyandrose1126.wordpress.com/2011/11/07/nominated-for-the-versatile-blogger-award/

    Thanks and congratulations!

  25. Katie…I’m not sure what’s going on with my site. It shows where you left a comment in my dashboard for the “Lamp & Fence”, but the title in there is called “Olympus Digital Camera” so it’s not showing in the blog under that post. This happened to somebody else yesterday too. I guess maybe it has something to do with me putting these pictures in as a “gallery”. I can’t figure out how to move your comment to the right post, nor can I read it all.

    • Hey there, I did leave a comment on the “Lamp & Fence.” I guess WordPress is having issues. It did that on Halloween for my three posts too. I guess just delete the comment. What I said was something about liking the black and white version better as my eye then could concentrate on the details of the lamp, without being distracting by the green and blue background. Something like that. Oh, and I said I loved the image too! πŸ™‚

  26. Thanks for checking out my blog!

  27. Hi Katie – I just want to confirm that you don’t mind me mentioning your blog and post names in today’s Rome, Italy (Part 2) post, underneath the photograph I am using. Don’t want to post it without you being ok with it?

    Cheers

    John

  28. Thanks for your comment on my blog. I read your post today about the fly on the flower. Yup, my daughter hates bugs too. I visited Santa Fe a few years ago. It is truly a wonder place. I’m pleased to be able to follow your work. All the best.

  29. Hi Katie, thanks so much for liking my first post and for your very kind comments about my painting. I love the photo on this page and I am going to have a lot of fun perusing your site! From what I have seen so far you are very talented!!

  30. Thanks so much for coming by my blog, Katie. Your photography is beautiful, I love your macro photos (and the black cat, wow!).

  31. Hey Katie,
Thanks for the nice comment on my photo blog. I really appreciate it. I especially like your Fine Art Photography.

I hope you’ll visit my site again as I add more of my work.

    All the best,
    John

  32. I nominated you for the “Liebster Blog” award! Please refer to my latest post on the subject πŸ™‚

  33. Heyy Katie, Thank you so much for passing by my blog !!..

Well i just saw some of your work and i’m pretty impressed* !!.. The colors, compositions even subjects are simply well done & got me AMAZED πŸ˜€ !..
Macro shots & Abstract are my FAV !..

    All the best*,
    Myrna.

  34. Hi Katie, it is nice to know you and see your work. I will be stopping back to view your work in depth. I like that you use the camera only and with very little photoshop processing. I am just the opposite. I come from a painter’s background and have no real photography skills. I have been creating computer art since 1985, and love the “lo-fi” paint feel of my work. I am always amazed at the skill and knowledge it takes to photograph a beautiful work of art.

Good luck in all your endeavors

    Walter @ newdigitalscapes.

    • Thanks, Walter, glad you like my work, even if you have different techniques. I enjoy more graphic work also,a nd since you’ve been doing it for so many years, it really shows how wonderful your work is. Thank you again for such a nice compliment.

  35. Hi Katie
Thanks for clicking the like button on my arachnophobia photo! Just checked out your black cat, and will look at more when I have a minute. Love your toffee-apple header.

  36. Hi Katie
Great site and some really fine photos.
    I’ll be checking in often.
    Stuart

  37. Awesome blog you got there!! I’ve had a few attempts at photography but I’m still to try my hands on a pro equipment. Your blog has reminded me that I have plans of getting a DSLR sometime soon πŸ˜›

  38. I hope so too. Truly, I envy (in a good way :P) the photographers who get to roam around, see different places, try their hand at photography and then make a living through that. Truly ideal! πŸ˜›

  39. Your work is of such a high caliber – it all seems professional!

  40. Thanks for visiting my site. I love your photo’s. I think I need to follow you!

  41. Hi Katie! I have sort of a ‘photography’ question maybe you can shed some light on. What do you make of ‘Rhein II’? The most expensive photo in the world to date…

What about Cindy Sherman, Untitled #96, which is now #2?

I have to admit I don’t get the appeal. Rhein II sold for $4.3 million. Honestly, I think if I saw it at a garage sale for $4, I still would not buy it…

What are your thoughts as a photographer?

  42. Hello, i love your blog, its so fun and and the pictures that you post are unlike other ones in the other blogs. That is why i have nominated you for the versatile blogger’s award. πŸ™‚ to accept do check it out here http://chicpress.wordpress.com/2011/12/15/the-versatile-blogger-award/

  43. Because I love your blog so much, I have awarded you the Versatile Blogger Award! Congrats!

    πŸ™‚

  44. Wow, I love your stuff! Very nice to meet you.

  45. I love your photographs, Katie.
Awsome and wonderful way of catching lively colors and little particulars, which are the core (or better, could I say the HEART?) of things captured in those special unique moments.
Thank you so much for sharing πŸ™‚

    • Thank you so much. I’m so glad you really like my photography. I do try to capture the simple things that my eye notices, so I’m so glad you see that. And also that you appreciate the colors in my work too. I just try to let things be what they are. Thanks again for you nice comment, and for visiting my blog and subscribing too. I really appreciate it! πŸ™‚

  46. Hi Katie – Thanks for the message wondering why I was not posting. I have been unwell for the last three weeks – laid out completely! Am on the way back to normal and will try to post just before Christmas and hopefully back to normal in January. I have missed catching up with everyone and have a lot of posts to peruse over the holiday! It is really nice to have online friends who care enough to wonder what is happening with you when you ‘disappear’ and I really appreciate your concern and wishes! Hope the Christmas season is good to you and yours Katie!

    Cheers

    John

    • Oh, John, I’m sorry you have been unwell! I so hope you do get better soon. It’s especially hard to be sick this time of your. Thanks so much for your well wishes also. Take care of yourself!

You have a beautiful collection of photos & a great blog! I look forward to checking out more of your posts.

    • Glad you feel the same way about photography, Jennifer. πŸ™‚ And thanks so much for your wonderful comment on my photography. Thanks too for visiting my blog. πŸ™‚

  53. Hi Katie! Again, I’m so glad you stopped by my blog yesterday. Santa Fe was home for about four years, so your photos really speak to me. Great work and keep walking down those old alleys–you really capture the essence of Santa Fe!

    • Ah, so glad you can see Santa Fe in my photos, as someone who has lived here. I know most people wouldn’t really know it, if they hadn’t spent lots of time here. So thank you so much for your comment and visiting my blog. πŸ™‚

  54. Hi Katie,

Dropped in to look at your site after your kind comment at Formosa Insight and I am glad I did. I’ve bookmarked it and plan to drop in from time to time as I find it helpful to look at outstanding images others have made – not to copy but to get my own creative juices going. It is very educational to see how others see things. Thanks for sharing

  55. Thank you for checking in on my blog! I love your ‘About’. I agree with that method of photography. It’s fun to make money with photos, but it’s also fun to have FUN with photos! πŸ™‚ Keep having fun!

  56. Hey Katie – Think I have caught up with your posts since the end of November and some that I hadn’t seen previously! Really enjoyed them all! Thanks, Katie!

    Cheers

    John
