Photos That Keep Me Looking

I love a photo that gets me thinking and keeps me looking at it; something I don’t get right away or something that intrigues my eye. To me, this photo does that. First, I wonder what exactly it is, and then my eye wants to explore every different line and follow it. And the more monochrome color makes me notice the textures and depth of the photo also.

If I had the chance to take this photo again, I’d use an aperture of  f/2.8, so more of the photo would be out of focus; the lens I was using that day didn’t have the capability to do that. I could do some work in Photoshop, but that isn’t the purpose of the photography I’m doing.

This photo was taken in the dead of winter, and I took the shot looking directly down on some plant that was dormant.  I still like this shot a lot. I find it very interesting, and I really enjoy looking at it.  (click the photo to enlarge it)

  1. amazing maze, it really makes you get lost in it and keeps the focus 🙂

    • Thank you, thank you! I’m a little unsure on whether to post photos sometimes, as I know I love things like this, but not sure what others think. 🙂 So thanks for commenting, Filipe!

  2. I do love photos like that. I call them great photos but I have no idea what to do with them.

    • I’m so glad you like the photo, Cee! You know, I think that’s kind of the thing, what do you do with a photograph that doesn’t have a clear subject matter, like this? I was thinking that if I had a larger home with some gallery wall space and a more clean/contemporary design, that a photo like this might look good printed large and on a wall.

Or do what I currently do, just visit it by accident every few months and be pleasantly surprised. 🙂 Thanks for your comment!

  3. I shoot photos like that all the time, I love them, and I really love yours. I post a little of everything to my blog, after all, it is my blog the way I look at things. Some people like photos like that, others don’t. “You can’t please every one so you’ve got to please yourself.” ~ Ricky Nelson

    • Thanks, Ricky! Yeah, I know you can’t please everyone, which is just fine. I’m still so new at this blog thing and showing any photos that aren’t architecture or pets (this blog is only 2 weeks old), that it’s still a bit unnerving. But I’m not going to show photos I don’t love, and I have to trust my eye, as it’s all I have. But I like to get feedback on what people like also, as it’s a learning thing. And right now, my eye is going towards this type of work, so I’m going to do it no matter what, as it just is what my heart wants. 🙂 So this blog will continue to have these more abstract type of photos, as I just like ’em. 🙂 Thanks so much for your comment, and now off to search your blog for some photos. 🙂
