Walk Along Little Fellow, Walk Along

Some photos just demand to be seen.

I took this photo of this little bug back in October. He was on a wall that borders an alley here, and I was shooting photos of him. He got bored and started to walk away, and I got this shot.

Every time I see this photo, I just stop and think that there is something special about it, but then I think, nah.  But then, every time I see it….

So here is the photo that demands to be seen. 🙂

Shot with my 105mm macro lens at f/4.0.

  1. Ooooh! Creepy little insect. But yes, great photo. Esp., the DoF. Brilliant little creatures of nature. They are everywhere. 🙂

  2. He is a striking little fellow. Looks like he might walk right off the screen.

  3. That’s a type of stink bug. Harmless to people, and pretty cute. That shot is special. The composition is nice with the critter where he is, plus there’s motion. It makes me wonder where he/she is off to.

  4. Even though bugs give me the heebie-jeebies, I still think it’s a nice shot, Katie! I like the DOF.

  5. I like your bug. I think the little things we often ignore in our daily lives make for great photographic subjects.

  6. Love this little buggy photo! It definitely demands to be seen and I’m so glad you posted it. 🙂 Great macro work!

  7. Lost a leg? Nice shot.

  8. Such a busy little creature. Well spotted and photographed.

  9. Nice macro, Katie. I like how the bug stands out from his surroundings.

  10. Interesting bug– red eyes!

  11. I see what you mean. It does have that yeah-nah effect… not sure if I like it, but I like it…?!

  12. I like bugs! Great macro Katie. 🙂

  13. It’s a cutie, Katie. I like the way it contrasts with rocks. 🙂

  14. just out of this world katie

  15. funny little being, very nicely captured!

  18. fantastic shot katie!!!

  19. This photo is special, Katie. It seems like insects are very shy…when I try to photograph them, they tend to keep turning away, keep walking away. They always seem timid, and so, catching this fellow in the action of fleeing makes me smile. Wonder why they are so shy? Great shot, and a good composition, too.

  20. Great shot! I love your composition.

  21. Not a big fan of bugs, but you know how to make them look pretty damn good!

  22. Love that he’s about to crawl under a stone … well that’s how it looks to me anyway

  23. Great DoF. My favorite part of this photo. (The little box elder bug is cute too, though) ; )

  24. You are right. There’s something special and the DOF is excellent. 🙂

  25. This is such a cool photo. And I love the movement in it. Yes, I think there’s something special about this once, it’s as if it has a story to tell. 🙂

  26. Look at his red eyes! So cute! 🙂

  27. […] a nice insect shot by Katie at Katie’s Camera Blog. Click here to see it. Advertisement GA_googleAddAttr("AdOpt", "1"); GA_googleAddAttr("Origin", "other"); […]

  28. At first I thought it was a Boxelder bug, then I wasn’t so sure, but maybe, I think it is, red eyes and all.

  29. Hmm. I think having him not centered, walking off to the right, imparts a sense of movement and some sort of buggy determination to reach his destination! 🙂 I may need psychiatric help…

  30. The composition of this makes me think he’s saying “Oh no Papparazzi!, I’m outta here!”. Thanks for sharing this one.

  31. I’m glad you decided to post it. I think it’s rather nice.

  32. What a smart looking little chap! I like his grey and red little combo.

  33. It’s amazing how many different bugs there are out there. Great shot Katie.

  34. My son is an entomologist and I often try to capture bug shots for him. He is studying ants at the moment – rather challenging to photograph but also less colourful than your little fellow! A type of ladybug was my first macro shot and still remains one of my favourites!

  35. Oh! I love bugs. I can see why this one kept jumping out at you; the trick of the eye to the beetle is captivating. I really like this one.

  36. Oh, what wonderful little splashes of red on his body! I must admit though, I can’t photograph insects – they make my skin feel all creepy crawly!

    • The more I photograph bugs, the less they make me feel creepy. 🙂 So I want to keep photographing them. It’s not their fault they creep me out. 🙂 He is cool with those red splashes, though. Thanks for your comment!

  37. There are so many things we don’t notice, but you always do 🙂 Thanks for letting us see the picture 😀

  38. insects are not easy to photograph. You have caught it well 🙂

  39. Katie
Top left leg. Pardon me, I’m old, but I don’t see the sixth leg.

    • Hi Victor, I do see the top left one. That’s the one I was thinking might be not seen. It’s more out of focus with the narrow DOF but there. 🙂 His left antenna goes upward, and then the leg has a strong bend to it, so you only see the top of it clearly. I can totally understand not seeing it as it looks like it’s where the antennae should be. Old or not. 🙂 Thanks for your comment!

  40. creepy! 😉

  41. Katie, a great close up here! Nice!

  42. I really like it! I’m glad you decided it needed to be seen! : )

  43. I like your photography style – giving an extra zing on everyday ordinary things.

  44. BEAUTIFUL!!!! I love bugs photo.I used to take a lot of photos of bug. I will share one in the first Wednesday of February 🙂

That bug has a cool colors, black and red,so Gothic 😉

  45. Very cool!
I like her/his little red eyes!
(makes me a bit itchy for some reason, though) 😉

  46. Alright! Yay for macro!

It’s a cool bug, black with touches of red. It has a nice background, a rough stone texture. Nice composition too. And bugs like this have always fascinated me, I don’t know why… But these guys are pretty cool. A lot cooler than mosquitoes, for example.
