Colorful Candy
A few months after the holidays last year, I had this tin of candy just sitting around, so I decided that the bright colors and shapes would make for some good photography. I put the candy on a window sill, and using the natural light, I went to work and ended with this photo.
I do want to say that hardly ever do I just take one photo and think it’s “the one.” I’m always trying different angles, different apertures (to get different amounts of the photo in focus), different focus points, and different compositions. This helps me see things more creatively, but also helps to develop what I like to see.
I like this photo. It shows exactly what I wanted it to (lots of candy), and I like the wood at the top left edge of the photo, which breaks up all the candy and stops the eye from leaving the photo. The candies with their square shapes are interesting to the eye also. And because the subject is candy, it automatically gives it a fun feel, which I enjoy also. Thoughts? Is it a successful photo? Thanks!

Beautiful photo!!
I saw on WordPress to my surprise you commented on my photo also..
It does help to play around with camera settings (when you have time), sometimes the photo you love is not the one you intended to take
Thanks so much for your comment. I loved your rain/grass photo. It makes me want to take more photos like that. And yes, sometimes you take a photo and it comes out and surprises you. I love when that happens. Lens magic! Take care and thanks for stopping by!
I like it, I like pictures of simple things, every day things, looking at them more closely. I love the colors and now I’m anxious for Christmas! LOL
Thank you! So glad you like the photo and now looking towards Christmas! It worked! π
Love how the outer edges are blurred and only 3 1/2 pieces are in focus! Looks like an advertisement for a candy shop! LOL how cute to just pick up something everyday like that and take photos.
Thanks, Kate! I love your comments. Take care!
Like the colors and the composition. I remember candy like that from childhood – I can taste it in my memory! π
Oh, thank you! That was why I bought it. It reminded me of my childhood too! So glad you felt a connection to the photo. Thank you, thank you, thank you for commenting! I need to hear things like that.
I love that these are old-fashioned kind of candies. Something about that makes it even more appealing. Would make a great Christmas card!
Thanks, Melissa! Maybe I’ll put it on my list to find old time candies again this year! π Thanks for all your support!

So pretty!
Thank you so much, Zoe! It’s so wonderful to hear from you.
The fact that the pink one is the one in focus was a good choice,
that color automaticly jumps out more but does even more now π
Did something similar with crayons a year ago,in my student appartment π
Ah Youri! Now I remember placing that pink one there and focusing on it, just like you said. π I’d love to see your crayon photo. I took a photo of a box of crayons, but it wasn’t very successful. π Thanks for your comment!
I really like the candy caramel apples photo on the top of this blog. You really captured the delicious and wonderful feeling it gives!
Ah, thank you much, Karen! I so appreciate your feedback. If you want to see the original candied apple photo, I did a post about it: https://katiescamerablog.wordpress.com/2011/09/17/candied-apples/ Thanks for visiting my blog and the wonderful compliment!
