Photography as Abstract – Elegance
Another abstract here. (: If you want to see the other images/posts in the series, please click here and here.
When I first starting blogging, I ran into some wonderful photography at Milkay Photography. Her photo of swirls stopped me in my tracks (see the post here), and I’ve had it in my mind that I wanted to try something similar, but also put my own spin on it. And after trying it at different times (and actually really liking some of them), Monday I got one that I’ve decided to show you.
Bob, Nandini, John, Victoria, and David want to play the guessing game, so I’m not going to say what this is. That makes writing posts much easier. 😉
That being said, if you’d like to see what it is, click here to see another photo.
Shot with my 105mm lens at f/36.

This is pretty! Well, I have not clicked on the clue you have provided yet. 😉
Just wanted to tell you that I have put something similar today, great coincidence! 😀
Love this picture, the focus is brilliant. Now I’ll find out what this is.

It’s hard to believe that this belongs to a plant. It looks metallic. The joint, the shine, my God! Brilliantly captured Katie. Well done 🙂 🙂

It’s the lower left edge that’s puzzling. It looks like metal on metal. Good puzzle.

Love that you are playing with the abstract possibilities of what is seemingly realistic. I have a fascination for vines and tendrils–at one point I collected natural materials and wove them into baskets. Vines are inspirational, which are native to my area. And you’ve found a new way of looking at your local plants. Very nice, Sally

Ah, glad you like these things too and that you make things out of vines! Wonderful, Sally. 🙂

It looks to me like a drapery pin, or a shower curtain pin. I haven’t looked at your clue yet. I think I will wait a bit and see what the other bloggers think it is. 🙂

Hey – thanks for the shout out! Your ‘squiggle’ is nicely done!! 🙂 The background elements are unique and add great interest!

Yep, the background! I always watch closely what’s in the background More than welcome on the shout out! 🙂

Hey Katie – I’m now wishing I hadn’t asked to guess! What could it be, and no, I haven’t looked at the clue yet! Is it an slightly uncoiled piece of a small spring? It doesn’t look as if it is attached to anything? It might be a USA something that I have never seen before? Could it be a dentist’s instrument of torture? Nope … 15 minutes later … abject defeat! I will have to look at the other photo!
Good fun though – keeps the brain ticking over!
Cheers
John

I too never would have guessed correctly. I thought it was a wood shaving from someone using a hand plane on a piece of wood. Nicely done Katie!!!

Yep, I had to get in really close to take the image. Macro lenses are wonderful that way!
KatiesCameraBlog said this on December 1, 2011 at 6:48 am |
Wonderful macro shot & lovely colour green. The is a hard one to guess & I’m not going to look at the clue until everyone has finished guessing and I read a few more replies.
It’s looks man-made. I’ll guess it is a piece of white plastic seal to pull to open something. It looks too smooth to be directly from nature, but who knows what Nature can surpise us with.
Great first shot for the Guessing Game.

This is a very cool abstract; I think the background adds to the effect with the out-of-focus part somewhat mirroring the curl. Nice shot Katie!!

I think backgrounds are just as important as the main subject, so glad you can see that it adds to the image, Steve! 🙂

I thought it was a plastic strip that snapped off something and went “sproing”! There’s sort of a cool “abracadabra” that happens in your abstracts. 🙂 — Susie C.

love the foreground and background-am I allowed to guess? the strip that fits around a plastic lid that you peel off to break the seal?Regardless, abstract is.i think this is a great shot and I am so curious!! LOL (thnx for your comments on a great gift)

I haven’t looked at your clue yet, but I’m going to guess it’s part of a plant. The bottom left corner of the picture doesn’t completely jive with my guess, but I have a similar squiggle photo that is part of a vine-like piece of plant. Hmmm… My husband has guessed ‘a curled sliver of plastic’. Not convinced he’s correct because I still think it’s organic, but I could be completely off the mark.
Either way – great shot! Can’t wait to find out what it is. 🙂
