Fairies Are Just So Cool ….

I was out yesterday, and I noticed that my favorite fairy had been placed on the outside of a fence instead of on the inside. I was so excited! I love this guy, but I’ve never been able to get in close enough to get an interesting shot.

I don’t know the story behind this fairy, as he most definitely isn’t the squeaky clean kind of fairy. This one has some scrapes and bruises on him. Much more interesting, if you ask me. 🙂

I’m going to go back and take more photos of this guy, as it was getting dark, and I was using higher ISO’s and slower shutter speeds than I like to. But still, I really like this shot.

And if I needed a fairy on my side, this is the one I’d go to.  (:

Novroz has written a wonderful short story for this fairy, so please take a look here.

  1. LOVE this! Please take more pictures Katie 🙂

  2. Ooo, I like that. The soft focus on the background works VERY well. gives it a very surreal feel. I’m predicting that your next shot done with a bit more light will be extraordinary. Good find!

  3. I really like the way you shot this photo. Very interesting!!

  4. Oh, I really like it. Looks pretty mischievous to me and I wouldn’t want to annoy him.
I like the shallow depth field, I feel like he’s jumping out with the intention of biting me on the nose.

    • He does look mischevious! Maybe that’s why I feel a kindred spirit to him? 🙂 To me, it looks like he’s just returned from some fighting (and I’d hate to see the other guy). 🙂 Thanks for your comment, Syncy!

  5. This is a great capture, Katie! Wonderful use of shallow DoF, and the ‘expression’ on his face is priceless. Great work!!

  6. Katie, this is a haunting and memorable shot! At first glance, it looks like his eyes are closed, but as I look deeper, I get the feeling that he’s looking straight at/into me. Beautifully done!

  7. Brilliant shot! But it’s a little bit spooky 🙂

  8. Woah, that is gorgeous! In a sort of spooky way.

  9. Love the composition, Katie. You’ve made it so that it looks like it is about to bust out of my screen, and right onto my face.

  10. This is great capture Katie. Although it has been ruined but sure a fairy face. And the focus is truly cool. 🙂

    • I’m not sure if he just wasn’t made that way with those scratches, etc. It kind of is confusing. That’s probably why I like it. 🙂 Thanks for your comment, Nandini!

  11. Amazing DOF. Great shot.

  12. Wow! That is a captivating image. I really appreciate how you explain how you get your shots.

  13. Very creative, Katie. Like the others, I like the DoF and the almost surreal nature of the image. I can see a lot of possibilities and understand why you want to go back. Very nice!

  14. What a fascinating photo! That “face” looks like a little child wrapped up in there. It both give me the chills and admiration at the same time. The photo is super!! One of my favourites from you (and that says a lot!)

  15. What an interesting fairy! I love the way he shows his age and I think you achieved a great shot. I think I’d definitely want him on my side!

  16. Full of intrigue! 🙂

  17. Waiting for more new pictures 🙂 Love the photo! 🙂

  18. That is one wicked looking fairy…looks like he should be in a horror movie & love those. Great shot.

  19. Wow, that is wonderful! LOVE it!

  20. Firtsly, what a great shot! Secondly, I can see why you love this fairy, I bet he has an amazing story behind him and that each bruise and scar tells an enchanting tale; he is simply beautiful

  21. The head is floating! Interesting indeed! I’d like to see what it looks like in the dark, placed on a steady surface… if you had lighting underneath..yikes!

  22. Great shot Katie and you are right…it looks like this fairy has been around for awhile doing what fairies do!

  23. Surreal but charming–is that raku (ceramic)? It does have character, Sally

  24. Lovely 🙂

  25. Squinty little winker. I think he’s flirting. Adorable. And yes he is def a trouble maker, you can just tell. 🙂 So cute. 🙂

  26. Just…. Great 🙂

  27. I’ve come back to look at this photo about 4 times today. I really like it! Is it an actual sculpture, or a face you saw in something that wasn’t intended to be a face? Either way, this is a great photo!

  28. Ha! That is one bad-ass looking fairy — I’d definitely want him on MY side! Great catch. 🙂

  29. Creepy, underworld, death-mask fairy. Yikes! Very cool shot.

  30. owmy…that’s awesome. For a moment, i thought I saw a real person wearing a mask instead of a statue and your shot makes it look even more mysterious. i can make a story out of this.

  31. beautiful! can’t wait for more photos of your fairy…

  37. i like that shot but i’m a little afraid of his face

  43. Kind of ominous looking. I like it.

  44. Cool shot and cool fairy, Katie!! I love unusual things like this.

  45. I love unusual faces. This fairy has an intense look, but also intimate. He could almost be puckering up. The shallow depth of focus adds to the mystery.

  46. […] took this photo the same day as the image of my favorite fairy, which surprises me, as there was no snow on the fairy, but plenty here. I know the fairy faces […]
